Majority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has highlighted the Akufo-Addo administration's unprecedented achievement in reducing electricity tariffs, a move he claims distinguishes it from past governments in Ghana's 4th republic.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Afenyo-Markin emphasised the essence of this tariff reduction as a reflection of the government's commitment to alleviating the economic burdens on Ghanaians.
"This government acknowledges that our people face various forms of challenges. It is in light of this that history will remember this government as the only government in the 4th republic to reduce electricity tariffs.
“In 2018, the government of Ghana announced various tariff reductions ranging from 18 to 30 percent. It is a matter of record, and this has never happened in the history of Ghana," he stated.
Afenyo-Markin also revealed that government is preparing to present a bill to parliament aimed at regulating the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
This legislative initiative seeks to ensure the sustainability of the Free SHS program amid concerns about potential reviews and cancellation by future administrations.
The Free SHS policy has been a cornerstone of the Akufo-Addo government's educational reforms, providing free secondary education to all Ghanaian students.
