Bawumia's running mate issue would've been resolved if Alan is still a member of NPP – Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), has expressed his sadness over Alan Kyerematen's departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nana Akomea believes that Kyerematen, a prominent figure within the party, would have been a prime candidate for the running mate position if he had remained.

“He’s a stalwart in the political party. If he had stayed, this issue about running mate would have been settled,” Akomea stated.

Addressing the viability of third parties in Ghana's political landscape, Akomea was skeptical. "If you look at the third parties, the system doesn’t encourage third parties. Our system in this country is first past the post and from the results of the election garnered by third parties I don’t know why these gentlemen bother themselves,” he remarked.

The upcoming 2024 elections will feature several independent candidates and smaller political parties, all aiming to disrupt the established political order. Alan Kyerematen is currently leading the Movement for Change, which has formed an alliance with Abu Sakara.

Despite the challenges facing third-party candidates, Nana Akomea emphasized the importance of a strong and united political front, suggesting that fragmentation only weakens the overall democratic process in Ghana.
