Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the former Deputy Information Minister, has commended the technological advancements spearheaded by former President John Dramani Mahama, describing his legacy as unparalleled.
While appearing on an NDC show on Sunday, May 26, Kwakye Ofosu highlighted Mahama’s visionary approach to digital infrastructure, which led to significant investments in the sector.
One of Mahama’s key achievements, according to Ofosu, was the establishment of a 1000km rural fibre network connecting Accra to Bawku. This network spans six regions—Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, Northern, North East, and Upper East—linking 26 districts and over 100 communities.
“Mr. Mahama recognized the significant advantages of digital infrastructure, which inspired him to make substantial investments in the sector,” Kwakye Ofosu stated.
He added that Mahama invested in a 300km metro fibre network covering Accra and Tema. This network is capable of providing WiFi and other ICT services to millions of Ghanaians and businesses in the area.
Ofosu also noted Mahama's development of an LTE/4G network with over 119 base stations across Ghana. “This network provides internet services and network backbone support to all government agencies, including ministries, departments, and districts,” he added.
