The Students' Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has secured funding to settle outstanding academic fee arrears for over 3,000 need-based students.
In a statement dated March 26, the SRC's Public Relations Officer Belinda Nketia announced that "through extensive engagements with the fund managers and the administrator of the SRC KBN fund and KNUST Bursary, we are happy to announce that disbursement will be effected before the end of semester exams to over 3,000 students."
This move is aimed at providing much needed relief to financially struggling students as they prepare to write their semester exams.
It comes after the SRC allocated GHC 150,000 from its supplementary funds to assist exceptionally needy students whose legacy debts could not be fully cleared by the KNUST Bursary Fund (KBN).
"Student Support and Financial Services at DOSA have informed us that various agencies providing financial assistance to students are working assiduously to disburse funds before the end of the semester examinations," the statement from Ms. Nketia added.
The financial clearance of fee arrears for over 3,000 students, according to the SRC, demonstrates its commitment to prioritizing student welfare and ensuring financially vulnerable students are supported.
The SRC continues to engage stakeholders on boosting the KBN fund to cover about 70% of academic fees and support more needy students in the long run.
