President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has affirmed that Ghana's entire territory remains safe and secure under the control of the government, despite mounting security challenges in West Africa.
Delivering his final State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, the President said "I'm glad to be able to report that the entire territory that makes up our nation is safe, secure and under the control of the government and people of Ghana."
However, he noted that the security situation in the region means Ghana can no longer take its territorial integrity for granted.
In his speech, the President said "West Africa is under threat of terrorism and violent extremism. We can no longer take the territorial integrity of our country for granted."
His comments come as neighboring West African countries like Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger continue to face attacks from extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS.
There are also concerns that the violence could spread further within the region.
