Henry Kwabena Kokofu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and a member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team has refuted claims that some MPs and government appointees crowding their support for the Vice President are seeking personal gains or positions should he wins.
In an interview on Peace FM's “kokrokoo” morning show, Dr. Kokofu, who is also serving as a polling agent in the Ashanti Region for Dr. Bawumia, expressed his confidence in Vice President's ability to win the upcoming November 4 presidential election within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dr. Kokofu, who has temporarily taken a seven-day leave from his official duties to actively support the campaign, used the opportunity to advise party delegates, members, and supporters to vote for Dr. Bawumia.
"If you love Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party, let your utterances and celebrations be in moderation. It is a path of reconciliation," he urged.
The EPA Chief Executive Officer called for peace and further urged delegates to desist from violence and any activities that could negatively affect the New Patriotic Party as it prepares for the 2024 elections.
He categorically denied claims that those following Dr. Bawumia's campaign were doing so in the hopes of securing positions within his potential government.
"If any person tells you that those following Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are doing so because of their selfish interest, because the person wants to secure his position, there is no iota of truth in it.
“The appointing authority who gives someone a job can wake up tomorrow and say, my friend, go home...So, your job security doesn't depend on your campaign for somebody," Dr. Kokofu asserted.
Dr. Kokofu continued, "In any case, if you have the right to follow someone on his campaign tour, why don't you accord the same respect to your colleague who has decided to look elsewhere?"
