Is There Any Hope For The Hopeless Ghanaian Youth?

My greatest fear is when the youth of the nation who are to be the hope and future of the nation lose hope and faith in the nation and see no future for themselves in their country.

Opportunities that are meant for the poor are now given to the rich who have been stealing the scarce resource. Scholarships meant for the poor cocoa farmers' children are been given to the rich corrupt politicians and public servants’ children.

Now where the youth thought should have open opportunities — security agencies — the Army, police, fire service, customs, immigration, teaching, nursing, civil service, etc. are all reserved for those highly connected and can mostly pay bribes.

When they want to leave the country to seek greener pastures and need a birth certificate to apply for passports, the hopeless unemployed Ghanaians have to pay bribes for these legitimate documents.

If they want to start their business and need business certificates to start, until they pay bribes, they have nothing.

Banks will never grant loans to people who want to start something on their own.

When you ask the youth about their hope and trust in the security agencies and our judiciary, their answer will be negative.

Are our leaders happy with the country we are building?

Why are we joking with the future of this country?
People given powers to serve are rather being served as masters, not the servant role they advocated for.

The poor and hopeless youth will steal a tuber of yam due to hunger and will be given a jail term of over a decade. Meanwhile, the public servants, civil servants, and politicians who steal millions of cedis and dollars go scot-free.

What country are we building?
