A contingent of 18 players and the technical team of Ghana's Black Starlets left for Togo last Wednesday fully confident of making the nation proud in the Africa U-17 Championship which kicks off on Saturday.
The final squad comprises Abraham Hoenyedzi and David Dadzie (goalkeepers), Moses Otsiboe, Stephen Owusu-Ansah, Paul Addo, Alhassan Meisuna, Benjamin Owusu, Pero Gwala and Eric Opoku (defenders).
The midfielders are Abeiku Quansah, Daniel Opare, Enoch Adu Kofi, Ishmael Yartey and Abdul Aziz Yusif, while Sadick Adams, Kelvin Owusu Bossman, Ransford Osei and Nathaniel Asamoah constitute the attack.
The team was led by veteran coach, Fred Osam-Duodu, who will be seeking for a back-to-back title in Togo with the Starlets after leading The Gambia to glory in the last championship held in that country two years ago.
Chairman of the Black Starlets Management Committee, Mr Awuah Nyamekye, who led the team on its recent training tour of Egypt told the Daily Graphic yesterday that the team would surely pick one of the four World Cup tickets at the end of the day.
“All things being equal, the Starlets will do very well in the tournament judging from their current free-scoring form,” he stressed.
According to him, the Starlets displayed good scoring ability during the tour which saw them winning all eight matches against Division One and Under-20 sides of premier league teams in Egypt.
Ghana, who were runners-up in the last competition, open the competition on Sunday with a Group B game against neighbouring Burkina Faso in Kegue at 3.30p.m, followed by the other group match between Nigeria and Eritrea at 6p.m.
Host nation, Togo, open the tournament in Kegue on Saturday with a match against South Africa at 3.30p.m, while Gabon play Tunisia at the same venue at 6p.m.
