As Ghana marks its Founders’ Day of celebrating achievements of our forefathers that contributed in diverse ways to ensure realization of independence from foreign rule, let me cement my commitment to solving Ghana’s last national problem of uniting the nation for progress. This has to do with return and reconciliation of my maternal grandfather the ex-Mansenhene and ex-Dormaa Krontihene (King Maker) Nana Kwesi Ansu and his Mansen tribal people of Wanfie to their original friend Kwame Nkrumah.

Ghana with all its relevant stakeholders including politicians, security forces, journalists, traditional rulers, prominent citizens etc have striven over the years to unite everyone in our differences and endeavor to make Ghana’s first President Kwame Nkrumah a state man devoid of any partisan colour.

The national political reconciliation began with making Jerry Rawlings who is of Ewe tribe to symbolized an Nkrumahist reuniting all of the Ewe tribe to Kwame Nkrumah and also neutralizing the works that General Kotoka (an Ewe) did by helping co-lead overthrown of Kwame Nkrumah in February, 1966. In line with this, Rawlings was strongly aided in his regime by the Nkrumahs political family notably its patrons. His entry into a democratic dispensation was augmented by his two vice presidents who were Nkrumahs patrons namely Ekow Ackah in 1992 and Atta Mills in 1996.

This national agenda was followed with all stakeholders supporting President Kufuor who also helped reconcile Ashantis of the “Matemeho” family as well to Kwame Nkrumah. He equally neutralized the works of General Afrifa who also co-led Nkrumah’s overthrow with General Kotoka. President Kufuor initially began using Ekow Ackah again as his Vice in a Great Alliance going into 1996 elections. Later Dr. Edward Mahama who is an Nkrumahs patron too (and a presidential hopeful) and who gave me a personal presentation in his private clinic when I visited him in 1999 of how Nkrumah helped him with government scholarship to study medicine, was billed to be Kufuor’s running-mate going into the year 2000 elections. He was substituted by Alieu Mahama of similar Nkrumah credentials. Again, Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Kwame Nkrumah was supported by the “Matemeho” political family to become Member of Parliament in the Jomoro constituency of Kwame Nkrumah.

In recent years, the Danquah’s family of “Matemeho” through the current President Nana Akuffo Addo have also reconcile with Kwame Nkrumah. He did it mildly via his ally with Jerry Rawlings of which the latter campaigned for his presidency. The current Ghana government of the “Matemeho” (defected) political family of the United Party (UP) political tradition has a symbolic minister with name “Nkrumah”. The President recently commissioned the newly furnished Kwame Nkrumahs Mausoleum in Accra. Again, Samia Nkrumah enjoys the close partnership with this current Ghana government of New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the innovative neuro leadership of Nana Akuffo-Addo. The immediate past chairman of NPP of the “Matemeho” political family was an Nkrumahs patron by name Freddie Blay.

All that is remaining in the “Matemeho” family is the return and reconciliation to Kwame Nkrumah, my maternal grandfather Nana Kwesi Ansu and his Mansen people of Wamfie. Initially, he was best friend of Nkrumah and a financier of Nkrumah’s party. Wamfie of the Mansens that began as headquarters of Kwame Nkrumah later became headquarters of anti-Nkrumah politics. And there has not been any symbolic reversal of this up until now that I am embarking on a national program of rectifying this anomaly.

My maternal grandpa, the ex-Mansenhene and ex-Dormaa Krontihene Nana Kwesi Ansu is the political godfather of anti-Nkrumah politics in pre and post-independence Ghana beginning with his solo “Matemeho” Campaign against Nkrumah in 1952 after helping finance his party, the Convention Peoples’ Party (CPP) enabling Nkrumah to win his first ever election in 1951 of which the colonial government appointed him Leader of Government Business later to be changed to Prime Minister. My maternal grandpa Kwesi Ansu was persuaded to join a newly formed party to run his “Matemeho” Campaign via it. The persuasion was done by Ashanti King’s Chief Linguist and Founder of National Liberation Movement (NLM) by name Nana Baffuor Osei-Akoto (father of Ghana’s current Minister of Agriculture). NLM became Ghana’s biggest opposition party formed purposely for traditional rulers defecting from Nkrumah’s party of CPP after my grandfather Kwesi Ansu took the initiative.

My grandpa is also political godfather of United Party (UP) as he introduced the idea for its formation by merger of other parties with the main party that he belongs, National Liberation Movement (NLM), in 1957 after Nkrumah tried abolishing it with “Avoidance of Discrimination Act”. His lawyer Victor Owusu nicknamed “Ghana’s Near President” is also the political godfather of Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) which emanates from NLM and UP. This makes my maternal grandpa Kwesi Ansu the super-political godfather of NPP. His teammates in NLM and UP included Ashanti King Prempeh II, Ashanti King’s Chief Linguist and Founder of NLM Baffuor Osei-Akoto, J. B. Danquah, Prime Minister Busia, Victor Owusu and Afrifa. He later also worked with Mumuni Bawumia (father of Ghana’s current Vice President although he left to join Nkrumah and later Provisional National Defense Council, PNDC and National Democratic Congress, NDC) and Dombo when UP was formed.

My maternal grandfather Kwesi Ansu who was Chief of Mansen people of Wamfie and Krontihene (Second-In-Command and King Maker) of Dormaa-Gyaman Kingdom using his powers as the King Maker chose me with birth name Nana Kofi Ansu-Gyeabour to become CHILD KING at age 1 to succeed my grand cousin the then Dormaa-Gyaman King by name Osagyefo Nana Dr. Agyeman Badu I nicknamed Nkrumah’s de-facto Vice President. By this my grandpa made me Mansen people of Wamfie’s Political Messiah and their first King of Dormaa-Gyaman Kingdom. He also made me owner of his wealth which the PNDC military government led by Rawlings confiscated and use some to form Wamfie Rural Bank at Dormaa East District of Ghana, home of the Mansens.
