One of the ruling New Patriotic Party's flag bearer aspirants, Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh, has announced his decision to pick nomination forms today, 26 May 2023.
“I shall be picking up my nomination form at the party's headquarters at 11 am,” the engineer and politician told his supporters in a Facebook post.
He entreated all party supporters, well-wishers, and sympathisers to join him in his quest to make history.
Mr Addai-Nimoh, a former MP for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, is in the race with former Trades Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who has set his campaign in motion to lead the party ahead of the 2024 elections.
He has already resigned from his cabinet position to focus on his presidential ambition.
Also in the race is Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who announced his decision to run for the slot, to some MPs of the majority caucus.
Dr Bawumia and Mr Kyerematen are seen as the frontrunners in the race.
Other contenders
The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has also resigned from his post to focus on his presidential ambition.
There are six other contenders including former Minister of Energy Boakye Agyarko and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
A recent delegates-based survey conducted by Outcomes International Ghana and Centre for Sustainable African Development Initiatives (C-SADI) UK revealed that Kennedy Agyepong was trailing Dr Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen in the race.
Also in the race is former presidential Spokesperson and General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong.
The rest are a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joe Ghartey, who is also the MP for Essikado-Ketan; and a former Minister of Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, who is also a former MP for Offinso North.
