Abraham Amaliba, a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress' communication and legal team, has challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's bid to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as flagbearer in the 2024 general elections.
According to Mr. Amaliba, the vice president appears like a liar and a joker who can never rule Ghana.
Speaking on Accra-based TV3's New Day show on Friday, May 26, the NDC communicator said the NPP has lost credibility and trust due to their ill and corrupt administration.
"The NPP horse is sick, so it doesn't matter who mounts the horse, they cannot win the race. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, you see him, you see lies. Immediately the man comes out, you see him, you see a joker. He is not fit for the purpose," he said.
Mr. Amaliba emphasized that Ghanaians, who have suffered due to the actions of the NPP government, will not give them another chance to rule after the 2024 general elections.
"Clearly, it doesn't matter who comes, this country will look at their economy, which is in everybody's pocket. When they look at that, this government cannot survive because they have brought so much pain to families," he stated.
Meanwhile, the NPP has, today, May 26, opened nomination for members who wish to contest for the flagbearership race at a filing fee of GHC50,000.
The nomination closes on Saturday, June 24, to be followed by a national congress on November 4, where the party will choose who to lead them in the next elections to break the 8-year jinx of governance.
Other contestants in the keenly contested race are, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, Francis Addai Nimo and others.
