Government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has thrown his weight behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
The government spokesperson noted that the Vice President can lead the country to the path of socio-economic development if given the nod.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ AM show on Friday, May 26, Mr. Boakye-Danquah cited Vice President’s digitalization initiative, which he said has been beneficial to the country.
“If Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is given a chance to lead Ghana, he will lead us in the right direction. He championed the digitalization agenda we see now,” he said.
The NPP has, today, May 26, opened nomination for members who wish to contest for the flagbearership position at a filing fee of GHC50,000.
The nomination closes on Saturday, June 24, to be followed by a national congress on November 4, where the party will choose who to lead them in the next elections as they aspire to break the 8-year jinx of governance.
Joining the Vice President in the keenly contested race is former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, former General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr. Akoto Owusu Afriyie, Francis Addai Nimo and others.
