National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Chairman for the Kade Constituency in the Eastern Region, is questioning the Special Prosecutor’s (SP) business in the internal politics of the party.
According to Mr Godfred Bonsu, the Special Prosecutor’s office is a particular office that should not mingle with the internal politics of political parties.
Mr Bonsu explained that there are more serious cases of interest to the people of Ghana on the table of SP that need his attention than the internal affairs of the NDC.
The OSP recently invited a parliamentary aspirant, Juliana Kinning Wissan, of the NDC who was captured on video raining money on the delegates and supporters during the primaries at Ejura Sekyeredumase.
In a statement dated Wednesday, 17 May 2023, however, Mr Bonsu said money-sharing during elections is not unusual.
In his statement, the NDC Chairman for the Kade Constituency, said: “I was exceedingly worried when I saw Juliana Kinang Wassan, a former parliamentary aspirant for Ejura Sekyeredumase constituency in the Ashanti Region, spraying money in a viral video during the parliamentary and presidential elections on May 13, 2023.”
However, he argued that it is not the SP’s mandate to look into such occurrences when it concerns the internal politics of a particular party. It is the duty, he argued, of the leadership of the particular political party, to deal with such matters.
The statement further commended the NDC delegates at Ejura Sekyeredumase for performing a national duty by voting against the monetisation of politics in Ghana “which we must applaud”.
