NPP outlines key measures to 'break the 8'

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah has stated that it is possible for the NPP government to break the eight-year electoral cycle in the 2024 elections.

He explained that, despite the good track record the NPP government has as compared to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in terms of job creation, road infrastructure and education, the party has outlined measures that will guide them to achieve their aim.

Speaking in an interview, Justin Koduah said, the key factors that the party has adopted to "break the 8" are free and fair presidential and parliamentary primaries.

"One of the factors that bring the downfall of every political party, whether NPP or NDC is internal primaries such as presidential and parliamentary. So the current executives of the NPP chaired by Stephen Ntim are in vigorous preparation to ensure a free, fair, clean and successful primaries to lead the party into election 2024," he emphasized.

He stressed the need for a united front to enable the NPP to 'break the 8'."Our responsibility is to do whatever is necessary to make sure that victory is forthcoming. We have to continue our way forward in Ghana. We cannot accept the backsliding that takes place now and then. It doesn't benefit our nation," he stated.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved dates for holding its presidential and parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2024 general elections.

At separate National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings held on Monday, April 3, 2023, the party approved schedules for elections to select a presidential candidate and parliamentary aspirants.

"The timelines aim to ensure free, fair and transparent processes," General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced.

The presidential primaries will open nominations on May 26, close on June 24, and hold elections on November 4.

For parliamentary primaries, orphan constituencies will have nominations from June 16 to July 14 and elections from August 1 to December 2. Constituencies with sitting MPs will have nominations from December 20 to January 4 and elections on February 24.
