Agradaa saga: I admire her strength
14.10.2022 LISTEN

I have followed the Agradaa money doubling scam since it started and I can’t help but share my opinion. Anytime, I watch her videos on social media including the recent court proceedings I can’t help but to think to myself: “This woman got guts and strength”

I remember the day when the police broke the news that Agradaa has been arrested, there were people on social media already with a “free Agradaa campaign” to some of those people, it was not her fault that people felt they had been duped.

Agradaa, (aka) Evangelist Mama Pat, herself came out with a video explaining that all what was happening was just a plot to attack her ‘thriving’ ministry.

She explained that like every other church, she only raised funds during her said ‘All night’ service and the people who were complaining were only people ‘planted’ in her church to destroy her.

I can’t help but to admire her wit and strength as she moves in and out of court, how she sings out loudly especially knowing that camera lenses are on her baffles me.

However, a few questions continue to play on my mind, is it that the people that trooped her church on the night of the said ‘All night service’ are gullible? What really could have informed their decision to subscribe to a so-called money doubling scheme in church?

Were they believing in instant miracle? Or what actually was their motivation for going to get double the money they had, when the Bible itself says that …”You cannot reap where you have not sown” or they had seen another version of the Bible.

Ghanaians like free, someone said, people troop to anywhere free is promised but in advanced economies, a lot of the people understand that “there is no free lunch.”

I mean how were the people expecting that their monies could be doubled, or they probably thought that the miracle of the five loaves of bread and two fishes which was multiplied to feed thousands was going to be repeated in Ghana? Well…. As someone said… ‘I can’t think far’.

There is another Ghanaian parable translated to mean “we do not light a lamp to watch a person we already know” we all know the Agradaa of yesterday who used to perform the “sika gari” miracle while she was a fetish, and yet…… sigh!

Anyway, what I have been thinking to myself is that if we had such bold and strong personalities with the kind of guts and tenacity who stood for righteousness, honestly and modelled good behavior, Ghana would have been a little more developed than it is now.

As it is in Ghana, even if someone is pursuing a worthy cause and wants monetary support to do that, the person gets very little support.

Without sounding political, how many ‘Christians’ have supported the building of the cathedral? Especially when majority of Christians are familiar with the scripture which says that “it is more blessed to give than to receive.”

This does not mean that I support what Agradaa did, not in anyway, it is not good to dupe people no matter how vulnerable they may be, but to me it seems that there is a little bit of Agradaa scattered all over Ghana.

Many people do not think twice when they get an opportunity to make money off their fellow Ghanaian or put one down to enable them rise up.

Why do we do this to ourselves and why are a lot of people ready to sacrifice human values and morality on the money making Altar.

I am not here to judge anyone but just to point out that I wish there were about 200 people with the kind of strength that Agradaa displays, but who stood for righteousness, honesty, humility, knowledge, respect and all the good virtues you can think of.

That said I really admire Agradaa’s strength.
