The Reality We Face: COVID IS REAL

The current nature of our world is dark, blurry and dangerous. COVID-19 has hidden itself in an invisible cloth seriously diminishing lives and extinguishing the flame of human spirit. The Delta variant as described by Pharmacist and fellow of the Ghana Centre For Democratic Development (CDD) is two hundred percent more deadly than the Wuhan strain, this statement goes to affirm the fact that we are currently at the forefront of death.

Statistics from the Ghana Health Service shows we are currently at the third wave of COVID 19 which means we must now be smart in our way of life. Adherence to the safety protocols must be our major priority now as citizens of this great country. Ghana has seen a surge in the case counts of COVID 19, because of the high disregard of the safety protocols, we were doing well when COVID first made its way into the country but the reality we face now is it seems we have still not come to grips with the existence of COVID 19.

Whilst many believe it's a hoax, others say we being alive today is just by the protection of God and not because of our adherence to the safety protocols. Others say why should I comply when leadership itself has failed in its line of duty.

Now, COVID is not a hoax, if we have been spared it does not mean we will be spared forever. If you want to see the truth, switch on your television and watch the news telecasts around the world, or better still do a little research and you will find out that COVID is not a hoax but a reality that spells death. Care to note that health officials will not spend their time on TV stations warning citizens of this deadly virus for nothing, they have better things to do.

To the Godly concept, God protects but he protects those who protect themselves. We cannot sit down and fold our arms and say "God dey" and so we will survive, yes we will but not when COVID 19 lurks on our shores. God knows of the circumstances we will face that is why he gave us brains, the brains to think and find solutions to problems. Fellow Ghanaians, God exists in India, he exists in the UK and even the people who died from the virus here in Ghana knew God too. It is true and very true God has been behind us we still being alive right now, but God will watch us cry to our deaths if we do not adhere to the protocols, you can trust me on this one.

People have been dying of Malaria in this country, others of Stroke and many more, but God existed and yet all of them still died. COVID is no different, God protects but he protects those who make conscious efforts to protect themselves. We must do our little for God to do the greater part and at the end, we will give glory to his name. Yes, we are thankful to God for the protection all this while.

I was really disappointed in leadership when it failed to honour its duties as the safety protocols are concerned, but my life is in my own hands not in the hands of President Akuffo Addo. No! when COVID sends me to my grave I will be going alone and not with the president, you and I know we are living in Ghana where all the time the right things to be done are not done. This is not the first time leadership has failed us, so let us consider it as one of its major flaws and then let's get on with our lives.

If we say we will not listen to leadership again we do it at our own risk, if we say leadership has failed and so we will not vote I will agree on a tiny bit, but matters relating to our health is very essential. If the president says we should adhere to the protocols, we must adhere because even if he will not say he erred, in his heart he knows he erred. Let us be encouraged to adhere to the protocols, we need everyone alive, the Delta variant is deadly and so when we let our guard down none of us will survive.

We are all at risk including leadership itself, let us be each others keepers and encourage each other to wear the mask, wash our hands, commit to social distancing, and also get vaccinated when the vaccines arrive.
