Dumsor; the pain and excitement

Feature Article Dumsor; the pain and excitement
JUL 22, 2021 LISTEN

We live in our part of the world where negligence reigns supreme. Culprits continue to enjoy a field day as though there are no rules of engagement. The ordinary Ghanaian struggles owing to the incessant power cut. We lack strong institutions as a nation but it hasn’t occurred to the very people at the Helm of Affairs to do the needful. Today, anyone who tries to criticize a sitting government is chastised. Can we possibly build a prosperous nation with this vindictiveness? I will blame it on the Fourth Estate of the Realm’s inability to serve as a watchdog. With NPP and NDC journalists doing the bid of their paymasters, what else would you have expected.

This brings me to a normal phenomenon in Ghana today. I bring you greetings from the Dumsor room of grace. I believe you are enjoying your online lessons in piece? Cold store operators are losing because of the power fluctuations and we claim Ghana is on the path of development. Truth is there is no honest politician in Ghana. There are all corrupt and self-centred and you don’t need a damage control speech from a certain authority figure to insult your intelligence. “Yeeeeee” is the sudden sound you hear from Dumsor Victims across the length and breadth of the country who couldn’t enjoy a sound sleep, learn ahead of examination, join online class, print customers art works, save the sick, prepare slides among others.

Additionally, there is an excitement that comes with seeing a sign of electricity in our rooms that could be likened to winning a substantial amount of cash in lottery. Why should our lives in Ghana be without comfort and peace of mind? Hear this, the corruption tradition goes on and Students who are currently in their final year at the University Level would want to teach the nation a lesson should they get the nod to work in any our reputable government entities. Some friends of mine couldn’t submit their assignments because of the Dumsor Canker that was used as a campaign tool to kick out the NDC out of power. Please, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has disappointed Ghanaians except for the staunch members of the NPP who by their connections are enjoying a certain privilege the ordinary Ghanaian doesn’t benefit. Please, apart from the free Senior High School Policy introduced by this government that I applaud, what other promise has been fulfilled under this government?

Furthermore, it is sad but as usual of the Ghanaian “you can’t cry more than the bereaved”. Besides, a country where citizens have their umbilical cords attached to either the NPP, NDC or CPP, what else could be done in calling bad leaders to order. One of the things that sent the NDC to opposition is being replicated today. The Ghanaian politician’s mission in politics is only to create, loot and share. The records are there to expose hence wouldn’t delve into them. However, posterity is there to judge all corrupt politicians whose actions and inactions have sent innocent youths to their early graves in attempt to fight for the politicians during elections.

It is worthy of note that, the “ooooooh”, I just heard is a clear indication that, individuals living in and around that vicinity has been hit by the Dumsor. As such they will be at the mercy of mosquitoes and heat. So, you see, the Ghanaian politician has nothing to offer you and I entreat all and sundry to see things from their logical perspective. That way, they will better understand things and accordingly admonish their cohorts who find themselves in positions of trust. Ghana needs transformation and it starts from people with the interest of the nation at heart.

Let’s see Ghana as our own company and treat her right.
