It is sad to know that some Ghanaians no longer adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols. A situation that could increase our cases. When last did you hear from our President, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo on measures taken against spread of corona virus? Your guess is as good as mine. Indeed, you can attest to the fact that, our behaviour towards adhering to the protocols has not been the same ever since the vaccines arrived & majority took of them.
Today, no security personnel have the moral right to deal ruthlessly with recalcitrant citizens for refusing to wear mask. Besides, the very official is guilty of the offence.
So I say he who calls for equity must come with clean hands. Some pizza joints and other business entities in the heart of the capital do not even take the temperature of their customers talk less of checking who wears the mask or otherwise. I won't be hard on genuine churches but would plead with their leadership to adhere strictly to the protocols. Remember, anything man is expected to do God won't come in.
Are we waiting to record more cases before we do the needful? It is no news to me because Ghanaians enjoy working under fear and panic. Should our cases shoot, our Information Ministry will issue a press statement, the Ghana Health Service will act same and on Sunday we will get to hear Fellow Ghanaians one more time as against my Countrymen and women. Instead of pretending over the fact that there is no Covid-19 pandemic, please, let's be proactive enough on sensitising the citizenry on the pandemic.
The current issue in India must be a wakeup call to Ghanaians. Corona virus cases are surging in India, with the South Asian country reporting a global record of 362,567 new infections on Wednesday, April 28 and the death toll crossing 200,000. It is said that a total of 3,293 people have died within the past 24 hours. This is the first time the country saw over 3,000 fatalities in a day. India is currently logging global daily records of over 300,000 cases for the last seven days. A situation that does not auger well with the medical fraternity in the world.
This is a cause of worry to me. If India with all the great medical practitioners and accoutrements at her disposal struggles to combat the disease then Ghana must sit up. Let's continue to wear the mask, practice the social distancing, use the hand sanitisers and wash our hands thoroughly with soap under running water. That way, we will be rest assured of victory over the Covid-19 pandemic.
Surely, I will see you after Covid-19 with God on our side.
