Offinso North Parliamentary Candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress NDC in the 2020 General Elections, Hon. Ofosu Acheampong Ceasar, has rubbished the government's one hundred million Cedi rental assistance.
He described it as a misplaced priority, given the level of housing deficit Ghana is faced with and the fact that huge investments have gone into affordable housing projects that have been stalled.
According to him, the government should have channeled this money into the completion of several abandoned housing projects instead of giving it out to individuals for rent.
Mr. Acheampong also wondered how the disbursement of this money going to take place for the majority of Ghanaians including those in the rural communities to benefit
‘’a lot of investment has already been committed into projects with many structures already in place waiting for completion, and the budget did not even touch there’’. “However, it is ready to give out a whopping 100 million Cedis for rental service.” He lamented adding “what is the disbursement plan or criteria in giving out the money? “Is it NPP party supporters who are going to benefit with party cards?” He queried.
Speaking as a guest on the CruzFM morning show with S.K De Broadcaster on Monday, the MP hopeful again slammed the NPP government for presenting what he termed as ‘’Tax Budget’’ which only imposed increment and new taxes to inflict more sufferings on Ghanaians.
He referred to some of the new taxes featured in the 2021 budget read by Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu such as covid-19 levy, sanitation, and pollution levy, road toll, etc as unjustifiable due to the hardships COVID-19 has brought to Ghanaians and the NPP government’s hard criticism of the previous government regarding taxes when it was then in opposition.
“The NPP descended heavily on John Mahama’s government when it increased the Energy Sector Levy known as ESLA but when they came into office, they have increased it again” they described as a nuisance the taxes introduced and promised to move governance from taxation to production, now what has changed that more taxes are being imposed on Ghanaians when COVID-19 has caused job and business loss?” the Offinso North NDC stalwart expressed worry.
Portions of the 2021 budget read on Friday also captured the construction of the national cathedral which was initially told to be funded by donors from faith groups and by getting a space in the nation’s budget, Hon. Ofosu Acheampong Ceasar deemed the action as deceitful when President Nana Akufo-Addo and made it known to Ghanaians, the building will not be a burden on Ghanaians.

Look at that failed MP, instead of putting your house together you are speaking as if you know something about governance. You couldn't even win in your own hometown you have lived for years. Thank God you didn't win because you don't fit the MP position.
