Tagoe Sisters The Tagoe Sister – Lydia and Elizabeth are Ghana's Gospel forerunners. They were the musical force behind the “Great I Am Church”, which toured the expanse of the country in yearlong conventions and for the past decade have reigned as Ghana's queens of contemporary Gospel Music.In July of 1965 saw the birth of the twins. They had their early primary education at Alogloshie Primary and Middle School, near Achimota in Accra. They continued to YMCA to learn dressmaking but abandoned it to answer their destiny call which was gospel music.The parents of the sisters were against their singing. At the age of 13, the Tagoe Sisters started using empty milk tins on sticks as microphones in their hometown – Dunkwa-on Offin. The twins, with hope and confidence, displayed an independence that set them apart. Tagoe Sisters: when it all began They performed nightly shows during the 1982-83 Open church Crusades and came to be recognized as the first duo or group, male and female rendering contemporary gospel music to a nation that is predominantly Christian.When they turned professional, they vault far ahead of the musical style they themselves introduced and started exploring new horizons.Their exciting music has travelled the world over, transcending Culture and Political Barriers, leaving joy and inspiration in the hearts and homes it touches.Their style of singing in unison with occasion injections of the two-part harmony has carved a much-envied niche for them in recently highly competitive gospel music market.Imitation, they say, is the highest form of flattery. If so then the Tagoe Sisters are greatly flattered by the multitude of musicians and young talent striving to sound or look like them.
