The auditorium of the Accra International Conference Center went agog last Sunday night when patrons had converged to witness who was crowned TV3's Ghana's Most Beautiful (GMB) 2014.
One could hear the “ohs” and “ahs”, when some patrons felt one or two of the four finalists were not treated fairly and so did not deserve the positions they were given.
This was in the case of Lamine, Upper East representative of the 2014 GMB competition, who was given the fourth position to the displeasure of some people in the audience. Some of them felt that throughout the competition, she did better and so did not deserve the fourth position.
But as for Baci, the Upper West Region ambassador or representative being crowned the winner of the show was obviously the expectation of almost everyone in the auditorium as they kept on chanting her name as the winner even before the judges pronounced her winner.
Throughout the 14-week of competitive performances by the various contestants, Baci stood out tall, especially when she won the “Star Performer” of the night prize for five consecutive times.
She was articulate and versatile in all her presentations during the show, and so her victory did not surprise many people.
The Ghana's Most Beautiful contest is a flagship programme of TV3 Network, leader in television in Ghana, with the aim of promoting unity among the people of all ten (10) regions of Ghana.
The show which has the motto to be “Redefining Beauty To Promote National Unity” has just ended its 8th edition, and as once declared by the Brands Manager of TV3, Mr. Felix Dontoh, the years coming promise an even more exciting and thrilling show for viewers.
The 2014 GMB show had ladies from all ten regions contesting. They are: Achawa, from the Greater Accra Region; Abena from the Ashanti Region, Nana from Western, Afia from Brong Ahafo and BB from the Central Region.
The rest were: Baci from Upper West; Lamine from Upper East; Ruky from the Northern Region; Ama from Eastern and Ewoe, from the Volta Region.
There were evictions along the way, in which eight representatives from some regions were shown the exit, with Baci; Ama; Ewoe and Lamine making it to the finals on Sunday, October 19.
Performances on the night were grouped into three parts: the talent show, fashion parade and the questions and answers part to test the intelligence and fluency of the contestants.
Ewoe was the first contestant to appear for the talent show. She acted as a “fake” visually impaired and a cripple begging for alms on the street, on the theme: “tricksters and fraudsters”. She stressed the need for everyone to be smart and vigilant in order not to be swindled by tricksters.
Baci took her turn to exhibit her talent. She acted as a police officer arresting people for alcoholism, drug abuse and other vices. She said drug abuse was not only resorting to hard drugs like cocaine and marijuana, but also misuse of pain killers and other medicines. Through her act, she also cautioned advertisers not to use children below the age of 18 in order not to send wrong signals to minors.
It was soon time for Ama to show the audience the talent she's got. She came in as a Twi newscaster reading news on good citizenship.
Lamine followed with her theme on music. She performed almost all the genres of music including high life, reggae, hip life, and hip hop. She emphasized the wonders of music to the soul, body and mnd.
For the prizes, Baci, the 2014 GMB queen was presented with a brand new salon car, a cash prize of ten thousand cedis (GH₵ 10,000.00), and souvenirs from sponsors.
Ewoe came second with seven thousand cedis GH₵7,000.00 and souvenirs from sponsors.
Ama and Lamine won GH₵6,000.00 and GH₵5,000.00 cedis, respectively for occupying the third and fourth positions, respectively.
The TV3 Ghana's Most Beautiful was sponsored by Samara Group of companies, producers of Sasso Insecticide Spray and Coils; Frytol; Camel Antiseptic and others.
