From Runway to Rhythm: Clifford Selorm Ametefe Takes Ghanaian Culture to the Czech Classical Stage

​ACCRA/PRAGUE — When the conversation turns to exporting Ghanaian culture, Clifford Selorm Ametefe stands out as a true ambassador. The former winner of the first edition of Mr. Model Africa (formerly Mr. Model Ghana) has spent the last year in Europe proving his talents extend far beyond the runway, successfully bridging the gap between traditional African dance and European classical music.

​A longtime member of the renowned Ghana Dance Ensemble at the University of Ghana’s Institute of African Studies, Clifford is currently making waves in the Czech Republic, where he is blending the raw energy of Ghanaian tradition with contemporary high art.

​Breaking Barriers in the 2025/2026 Season

In a major career milestone, Clifford joined the HAMU Percussion Ensemble for the Czech Chamber Music Society’s 131st Concert Season. His performance at the prestigious Lichtenštejnský palác – Sál Martinů was noted for bridging the gap between classical European percussion and African polyrhythms.

​He has continued to command major stages throughout the season, including a sold-out concert titled “Drums As You Don’t Know Them” at the 43rd Talichův Beroun International Music Festival. Additionally, he performed alongside international heavyweights, such as jazz drummer Mark Guiliana, at the Bubenický Festival, Litomyšl—one of Europe’s largest drumming events.

​Education and Social Impact
Beyond performance, Clifford has taken on the role of educator, conducting intensive African dance and music workshops at prestigious institutions across the Czech Republic.

​However, his most impactful work may be off the stage. In the 2024–2025 period, he collaborated with Czech vocalist Ridina Ahmedová on the "Moje tělo je moje" (My Body Is Mine) project. This initiative, designed to combat body shaming, gained such significance that it led to a seminar at the University of Ghana, attended by the Czech Ambassador to Ghana.

​A Legacy of Collaboration
This recent success builds on a strong foundation of international work. Clifford’s previous European credits include the "Ghana Sunrise" project at Tanec Praha (2017) and the long-running production "Eymen – Point of View," a collaboration with choreographer Lenka Kniha Bartůňková and musician Ridina Ahmedová, directed by Yvonna Kreuzmannová.

​Reflecting on his journey, Clifford states: “From Africa to Europe, I’m on a mission to spread love, touch souls, and light up every stage I step on.”
