Hiplife pioneer Reggie Rockstone has responded strongly to veteran musician Slim Buster’s claim that he has done little to contribute to the Ghanaian music industry.
Reggie expressed disappointment over being drawn into a public disagreement, reminding Slim Buster of their longstanding friendship and their positions as veteran figures in the music industry.
“I don’t know why my name is always attached to drama. Slim, you’re my friend from way back. We are seniors in the game, so we shouldn’t take this route,” Reggie said.
The hiplife pioneer described the public exchange as unnecessary, stressing that established musicians should resolve their differences without engaging in public disputes.
“OGs do not beef,” he added.
The disagreement followed comments by Slim Buster, who said that despite knowing Reggie for years, he had never had the opportunity to sit down with him to discuss music.
He suggested that Reggie was unwilling to meet him while also accusing the hiplife pioneer of failing to make meaningful contributions to the industry.
Reggie rejected the accusation, pointing to his role in pioneering hiplife, a genre that combines Ghanaian musical traditions with hip-hop and other contemporary influences.
“You say I haven’t done anything for the industry, but I pioneered hiplife. You even tapped into it with ‘Masherita’,” he said.
Reggie’s response highlights his disagreement with Slim Buster’s assessment of his contribution to Ghanaian music and his frustration with the decision to raise the issue publicly.
