Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has insisted that he has no regrets about sharing a video of a one-legged man on his Instagram Story, despite the backlash and concerns that it was directed at Stonebwoy.
During an interview with Serwaa Amihere, the rapper was asked whether he would have shared the video if he had known the reaction it would generate, particularly after Stonebwoy questioned the post’s motive.
Sarkodie said he would still have posted it, maintaining that he did not intend to offend the dancehall musician.
“Oh yeah, yeah, I would have posted it,” he said when asked whether he would make the same decision again. When Serwaa pressed him on whether he cared that someone had been offended, Sarkodie challenged the idea that he should feel guilty over an action he said was not intended to hurt anyone.
“Why should I have regrets?” he asked.
He argued that people should not automatically be expected to feel bad when others take offence at something they did without malicious intent.
“Yeah, if you choose to be offended, and I did not try to offend you, and you think just because of that I have to feel sad. No, that’s not right for any human being,” he said.
Sarkodie also argued that people should not impose their feelings on others when they believe the person involved had nothing to do with the perceived offence.
“I don’t think I’ll take it personally, but I don’t think it’s fair for you to push what you feel towards somebody else when the person has nothing to do with it,” he added.
His response comes amid the controversy over the video, which was interpreted by some social media users as a reference to Stonebwoy’s disability.
