Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has criticised what he describes as selective justice in Ghana, questioning why young people accused of fraud are arrested while ministers facing allegations of financial misconduct appear not to face similar scrutiny.
The musician made the remarks during his ShattaFest 2026 concert at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Addressing thousands of patrons at the event, Shatta Wale expressed frustration over what he sees as unequal treatment under the law, arguing that young people suspected of fraud are pursued by law enforcement while public officials accused of misappropriating state funds seemingly escape accountability.
“Make I tell you, I get plenty fraud boys wey be my friends, but me, I no be snitch wey I go snitch anybody. The country no good, so if you go fraud, fraud. Ministers dey steal, they no dey catch them. Them dey steal our money, they no dey catch them, they dey catch young boys for Ghana,” he said.
His comments have drawn attention to broader concerns about accountability, corruption and the enforcement of financial crime laws in the country.
Shatta Wale also linked the situation to Ghana’s economic challenges, suggesting that frustrations over perceived inequality and the handling of public resources have contributed to growing discontent among some young people.
The artiste’s remarks have reignited conversations about whether the law is applied equally to ordinary citizens and politically influential individuals.
However, his comments reflect his personal views on the issue, and allegations of financial misconduct against public officials must be assessed through appropriate legal and investigative processes.
