The Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) has renewed attention on the importance of copyright compliance in the broadcasting industry after naming 16 radio and television stations it says are meeting their music royalty payment obligations.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, GHAMRO praised the stations for respecting copyright laws and fulfilling their music licensing responsibilities.
The organisation said compliance helps ensure that local artists, songwriters and publishers are compensated for their creative work.
The recognised stations are Joy FM, Hitz FM, Asempa FM, Adom TV, Adom FM, Luv FM, Nhyira FM, Joy Prime, Sporty FM, Pent Radio, Pent TV, Citi FM, Channel One TV, PCG TV, Hope FM and Lucky TV.
The recognition comes as GHAMRO continues to face the broader challenge of collecting royalties from music users across the country, including a broadcasting sector comprising more than 700 stations.
Music royalties provide a mechanism through which creators and other rights holders can earn income when their works are broadcast or otherwise used under applicable licensing arrangements.
GHAMRO is mandated to license music users, collect royalties and distribute payments to rights holders such as composers, lyricists, arrangers, performers and music publishers.
Broadcasters that play music as part of their programming fall within the scope of the organisation’s licensing activities, alongside businesses such as restaurants, pubs, event venues and other establishments that use music publicly or commercially.
The organisation’s latest announcement places the spotlight on the role broadcasters can play in supporting Ghana’s creative economy by meeting their legal obligations.
Greater compliance across the industry could help improve royalty collection and strengthen the financial support available to musicians and other professionals whose work contributes to Ghana’s music sector.
