Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has expressed concern about the declining interest among young people in agriculture, attributing the situation partly to the lack of incentives for farmers and their families.

Speaking on Hitz FM, he explained that many farmers struggle to persuade their children to follow in their footsteps because farming does not offer sufficient motivation to make the profession attractive to the younger generation.

He proposed that the government introduce free university education for farmers’ children as a way of rewarding farming families and encouraging more young people to participate in agricultural activities.

Okyeame Kwame believes that such a policy would give farmers’ children the opportunity to pursue higher education while acquiring knowledge and skills that could be applied to modern farming.

He further stressed that agriculture remains essential to Ghana’s development, as food production supports other industries and sustains the daily lives of people across the country.

The musician argued that creating better opportunities for farmers and their children could help change perceptions about agriculture and encourage greater participation in the sector.

He maintained that investing in the next generation of farmers would be an important step towards improving agricultural productivity and strengthening Ghana’s food production capacity.
