The Lands Commission has introduced an online search service that allows prospective land buyers to verify information about properties before making payments, in a move aimed at simplifying land acquisition and reducing the risk of fraudulent transactions.
The service enables applicants to upload a site plan through the Commission’s online portal, pay the required search fee via mobile money and receive a search report by email after the process is completed.
Deputy Executive Secretary in charge of Operations at the Lands Commission, Surveyor Raphael Hokey, explained the process during an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday, October 14.
He said prospective buyers could access the service through the Commission’s online platform, onlineservices.lc.gov.gh, where they are required to submit the site plan of the land they intend to acquire.
Applicants must then pay the applicable search fee using the mobile money option available on the platform, after which the search report is sent to their email addresses.
The initiative is expected to give buyers an additional means of checking land records before committing funds to a transaction, helping them make more informed decisions.
Online searches expand to more regions
Hokey disclosed that the service was available in 10 of Ghana’s 16 regions, with the Ashanti Region expected to be added during the week.
He listed the six newly created regions, Greater Accra, the Volta Region, the Eastern Region and the Western Region among the areas covered by the service.
“This is available for lands in the 6 new regions, Greater Accra, Volta Region, Eastern Region, Western Region and just this week, we are starting from Ashanti.”
How to conduct an online land search
Prospective buyers can access the service by following these four steps:
Visit the online portal: Log on to onlineservices.lc.gov.gh.
Upload the site plan: Submit the site plan of the land for which information is required.
Pay the search fee: Make payment through the mobile money option provided on the platform.
Receive the search report: The report is sent to the applicant’s email address after the search process is completed.
The online system provides a convenient option for prospective buyers to obtain land information before proceeding with a purchase.
