Veteran Ghanaian musician Slim Buster has taken aim at contemporary artistes, describing them as “selfish” and accusing them of refusing to collaborate with their predecessors.
Speaking on Adom TV, Slim Buster recounted a recent attempt to secure a collaboration through an intermediary—an effort he says was rejected without consideration.
“Now musicians are selfish. They are all selfish. I am telling them the gospel truth. Why should I be scared of them? They are my younger fellows,” he said.
He also cited an alleged incident involving veteran highlife artiste Nana Kwame, who reportedly approached a current hitmaker for a collaboration but was turned down. According to Slim Buster, the artiste allegedly claimed Nana Kwame’s era had passed and that working with him would amount to reviving his career.
Slim Buster expressed disappointment over such attitudes, arguing that veteran musicians deserve respect and support from younger artistes, especially considering their foundational contributions to Ghana’s music industry.
He stressed that collaborations between generations would enrich the industry, preserve its heritage, and strengthen the bond between old and new musical traditions.
