The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has given commercial drivers operating around the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), particularly at the Gee Roundabout, until October 30, to vacate unauthorised parking and loading points.
The directive is aimed at addressing traffic congestion and improving road safety around the hospital and its surrounding areas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, the Assembly cautioned that a task force would begin enforcement operations on Sunday, November 1, to clear the affected areas and remove vehicles that violate the directive.
“The Assembly hereby directs all commercial drivers to cease loading and parking on the shoulders of the road from the 4th Battalion of Infantry (4BN) gate to the Gee Roundabout, on both sides of the road,” the statement read in part.
The directive covers both sides of the road between the 4BN gate and the Gee Roundabout, but excludes the designated taxi rank in front of the Polyclinic within the KATH premises.
The KMA has asked affected drivers to return to their respective transport unions and use approved loading points instead of operating from unauthorised locations.
It cautioned that vehicles found violating the directive after the deadline would be removed and detained in accordance with the Assembly’s enforcement procedures.
“Vehicles found violating this directive will be removed and detained in accordance with the Assembly’s enforcement procedures,” the statement noted.
The Assembly has urged transport unions, commercial drivers and the general public to cooperate with the exercise to ensure the free flow of traffic and maintain order around the hospital.
