Ghanaian musician Lasmid has called for greater recognition and appreciation for Disc Jockeys (DJs), highlighting their significant contribution to the growth of Ghanaian music and artistes.
In a post shared on X, Lasmid said Ghanaian DJs deserve to be celebrated for the role they play in promoting music and helping artistes reach wider audiences.
He wrote: “Ghanaian DJs deserve their flowers. I grew up listening to DJs who made artists feel bigger, made songs travel further and gave people the soundtrack to their lives.”
According to the “Friday Night” hitmaker, his own musical journey has been influenced by the work of DJs he listened to while growing up.
He noted that many of the moments created by DJs contributed to shaping who he has become today, stressing that their impact on the music industry should not be taken for granted.
“Sometimes I feel we’ve become too comfortable taking that contribution for granted,” Lasmid stated.
He clarified that his comments were not directed at any particular individual or group but rather intended to spark a broader conversation about the importance of DJs to Ghana’s music industry.
“I’m not calling anyone out. I just think it’s time we had a real conversation about how much DJs mean to Ghanaian music and how much more they deserve,” he added.
