Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has spoken candidly about some of the personal struggles he overcame while reflecting on his 57 years of marriage.
The actor made the revelation during his Legacy Gala night on October 4, 2026, where he was asked how he had managed to remain married to one woman for more than five decades.
Rather than crediting marriage alone, Edochie pointed to his lifestyle, interests and personal discipline as some of the factors that have helped him remain focused.
The veteran actor revealed that he once struggled with heavy drinking and smoking but eventually gave up both habits.
He explained that he now spends much of his time reading and listening to classical music, while also keeping himself busy with different activities.
“Most of the time, I'm inside the house. I'm playing classical music, or I'm reading some material. I'm always very busy doing one thing or the other,” he said.
Edochie also highlighted his Christian faith as an important influence on the way he lives his life.
The actor, who has spent decades in Nollywood, stressed that his story should not be interpreted as proof that he is a perfect man.
He said his ability to remain committed to one woman is connected to his individual lifestyle and choices, rather than a standard that everyone must follow.
“It doesn't mean I'm a wonderful man. No, no,” he said.
His comments offered the audience a rare glimpse into the personal choices behind the public image of one of Nigeria's most celebrated veteran actors.
