Residents of Koblimahagu Zuo in the Tamale Metropolis have been left shocked and mourning after three children who had reportedly been missing since Saturday were found dead inside a parked vehicle.
The deceased children, aged three, five and eight, had been the subject of a search since their disappearance, with appeals made to the public to help locate them.
The circumstances that led to their disappearance and eventual deaths remain unclear.
Assembly Member for the area, Seidu Fuseini, confirmed the incident and said the owner of the vehicle had been taken into police custody to assist with investigations.
According to him, the vehicle owner told police that he had locked all the doors of the vehicle before leaving it.
Mohammed Juuna, a relative of one of the deceased children, also said in a social media post that the children were found trapped inside the stationary vehicle within the community.
Their bodies have since been conveyed to the morgue of the Tamale Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
Police investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the children's disappearance and deaths.
