Ghanaian gospel musician Mabel Okyere has come to the defence of female gospel musicians who have come under scrutiny over reports of marital challenges and divorces.
According to the celebrated gospel singer, the fact that more female gospel musicians have experienced failed marriages does not mean that every woman in the gospel music industry will suffer the same fate.
Mabel Okyere made the comments during an interview with MB Prince of Kessben FM in Kumasi on Friday, October 2, 2026, as part of a media tour to promote her upcoming annual gospel concert, The Glory Concert.
The recently married musician acknowledged that there have been several cases of failed marriages involving female gospel musicians, not only in Ghana but across the world.
However, she believes the media and the public should also pay attention to female gospel celebrities who have successfully maintained their marriages for many years without being involved in public controversies.
“Not all female gospel musicians have bad marriages, and not all of us will end up divorcing our husbands,” Mabel said during the interview.
She explained that while stories about broken marriages often attract significant public attention, there are also several female gospel artistes who have enjoyed stable marriages away from the spotlight.
Mabel mentioned Ceccy Twum and Piesie Esther, among others, as examples of Ghanaian female gospel musicians who, in her view, are doing well in their marriages.
She suggested that highlighting such stories would provide a more balanced picture of the experiences of women in Ghana's gospel music industry.
