Seasoned broadcaster and business leader Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie has been appointed Acting Managing Director of Ignite Media Group, operators of Metro TV, Original TV and Original 91.9 FM.
The appointment takes immediate effect, according to a notice issued by Commercial & Allied Services (CAS), a business cluster of the Jospong Group of Companies.
He replaces Klaus Komla Vonbackustein at the media house headquartered in North Ridge, Accra.
Announcing Kwasi Afriyie, popularly known as Chairman Afriyie, as the new Acting Managing Director, CAS said it was confident that his experience, dedication and understanding of the business would provide the leadership needed as Ignite Media Group builds on its achievements and pursues new opportunities.
“Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie Acting Managing Director,” the notice concluded.
The appointment gives Chairman Afriyie a new leadership responsibility within a media organisation where he has spent about a decade working in different capacities, both on air and in management.
Before his appointment as Acting Managing Director, Kwasi Afriyie served as Operations Manager at Ignite Media Group.
From broadcaster to management
Over the years, Kwasi Afriyie has also built a reputation as a broadcaster and business programme host.
He has worked as a news anchor and previously hosted The Bottomline, the station’s flagship business programme.
During Randy Abbey’s tenure as host of Good Morning Ghana, Afriyie regularly stepped in as a sit-in host, bringing his experience and familiarity with the programme to the morning show.
His broadcasting work has also included Good Afternoon Ghana, where he has hosted discussions on major national issues.
Experience beyond the media
Chairman Afriyie’s professional experience also extends beyond Ignite Media Group.
Before returning to the media and taking up management responsibilities at Ignite Media, he served at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), where he was Director of Corporate Affairs.
His experience cuts across broadcasting, corporate communications, public affairs and organisational management.
