Ghanaian musician Keche Joshua has claimed that something spiritual could be affecting the Black Stars, following the national team’s recent disappointing performance.
According to the musician, the team’s performances have become difficult to explain, particularly after the Black Stars suffered another painful defeat in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification against The Gambia.
Keche Joshua suggested that the Black Stars may have been cursed and called for prayers and spiritual intervention to help address what he believes could be an unseen problem affecting the national team.
His comments come shortly after Ghana suffered a shocking 4–2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The Black Stars initially appeared to be in control of the Group C encounter after Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty in the 27th minute before Felix Afena-Gyan doubled Ghana’s advantage six minutes later.
However, the two-goal lead quickly disappeared as The Gambia fought back before the end of the first half. Mohammed Badamosi pulled one back from the spot before Ebrima Colley restored parity, leaving Ghana level at the break.
The visitors returned strongly after halftime and completed the comeback in the 71st minute when Badamosi scored his second goal of the night. Colley later added another in the 88th minute to seal a remarkable 4–2 victory for The Gambia.
The result means Ghana have lost their opening two matches in Group C, having previously suffered a 2–0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire. The Black Stars therefore remain without a point from their first two qualifying games.
The latest setback has generated widespread criticism, with questions being raised about the team’s tactical organisation, mentality and overall direction. Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz accepted responsibility for the defeat and apologised to supporters, describing the result as a terrible day for Ghanaian football.
The calls for intervention come at a difficult moment for the national team, with Ghana needing to recover from the poor start and improve its results in the remaining AFCON qualifying matches.
