Sophia Momodu opens up about emotional abuse after pregnancy with Davido

Nigerian influencer and entrepreneur Sophia Momodu has opened up about the emotional and psychological abuse she says she experienced after becoming pregnant out of wedlock with Nigerian singer Davido.

Speaking at a United Nations General Assembly event in New York on Monday, Momodu recounted the criticism and ridicule she faced after becoming pregnant, particularly because she is the daughter of a pastor.

Momodu said she was mocked for having a child outside marriage and described the experience as emotionally draining.

“I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crazy. I had to find myself in the midst of all that,” she said.

According to her, the constant negative criticism affected her confidence and left her struggling to speak out despite being a public figure.

“For a long time, I didn’t have a voice despite being famous. I was worried and getting drained by the negative criticisms,” she said.

Momodu noted that having a child outside marriage is still viewed by many Nigerians as unacceptable, particularly for the daughter of a pastor.

She said she eventually began to reclaim her voice after repeatedly being told to remain silent because her story was considered shameful.

Momodu is the mother of Imade Adeleke, Davido’s first daughter.
