Raymond Archer should have been sacked by now – Kwadaso MP on EOCO-Baffuor Awuah incident

Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr Kingsley Nyarko, has called for the dismissal of the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Raymond Archer, over the attempted arrest of Manhyia South MP Nana Adjei Baffuor Awuah.

The call follows a confrontation between EOCO officials and the Manhyia South MP at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, shortly after he represented detained nurse Salomey Awiti Bafoh in court.

Videos from the incident showed a woman identifying herself as an EOCO official approaching the MP and asking him to accompany her to the EOCO office before a confrontation occurred around his vehicle.

EOCO later confirmed that its officers had attempted to arrest the MP as part of an ongoing investigation because he had failed to honour two invitations issued in February 2026.

However, speaking on Accra-based Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana Show on Thursday, September 24, Dr Nyarko accused EOCO of abusing the rights of individuals and questioned why Mr Archer remained in office.

“I'm wondering why Raymond Archer is still at post. He should be told that his behaviour is lawlessness. He is exhibiting lawless instincts at where he sits, and he must be told,” he said.

The Kwadaso MP argued that the circumstances surrounding the operation did not demonstrate that the MP had been properly informed of the reasons for his arrest.

He cited Articles 14 and 142 of the 1992 Constitution, as well as provisions of the Criminal Code, to argue that arrests must be carried out within the confines of the law.

“Those who have been entrusted with mandates by the state must act within the confines of the law. Nothing less, nothing more,” Dr Nyarko said.
