Veteran gospel musician Bernice Offei reportedly dies at 63

Ghana’s gospel music fraternity is mourning the reported death of veteran singer and songwriter Bernice Offei, who is said to have passed away at the age of 63.

Offei leaves behind a rich musical catalogue that includes popular gospel songs such as Hold On, Life Is Short and Kaa She Gbeyei.

Through her music, she addressed themes of faith, resilience and the challenges of everyday life, earning a lasting place in the hearts of many listeners.

Her reported death comes shortly after she was the subject of public concern following reports that she had gone missing. The musician was last seen in Accra on September 1, 2026, before she was later found safe, bringing temporary relief to her family, colleagues and admirers.

Beyond her work as a vocalist, Offei was also respected for her songwriting abilities. Her catalogue features several gospel recordings, including It’s By Grace, Nyame Kokroko and N’adom Ara Kwa, alongside other songs that reflected her Christian convictions and observations on life.
