Sam George pushes for probe into Ningo-Prampram military brutalities

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed his commitment to seeking accountability for the alleged assault of residents during a joint military and police operation in his constituency, following a high-level meeting with the Defence Minister and the Military High Command.

The meeting, held on Wednesday morning, was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff and the three Service Commanders, with discussions centred on the events surrounding last Tuesday's operation, which reportedly left several residents assaulted and three others with gunshot wounds.

In a Facebook statement after the meeting, Sam George revealed that the Military High Command had expressed concerns about portions of a video in which he addressed his constituents following the incident.

He said he used the engagement to clarify that his comments were not intended as an attack on the Ghana Armed Forces, an institution he deeply respects.

The MP acknowledged the concerns of the wider military fraternity and expressed his willingness to work more closely with the Defence Minister in addressing future situations involving security operations.

Despite the concerns raised over his remarks, Sam George maintained that his central issue remained the alleged misconduct of the personnel involved and the injuries and suffering experienced by his constituents.

He insisted that his position as an elected representative places on him the responsibility to defend the interests and rights of the people of Ningo-Prampram.

Significantly, the MP welcomed a commitment by the Chief of Defence Staff to open an investigation into the incident, expressing hope that the exercise would be thorough and its findings made public.

He also praised the Defence Minister for his swift intervention and pledged to work with the military leadership to ensure that the rights of residents are protected without compromising the integrity and reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Sam George has consequently urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with the investigation and allow the process to run its course.

The investigation is expected to provide further clarity on the circumstances surrounding the operation and the allegations of excessive conduct by some security personnel.
