Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, known popularly as Sarkodie, has responded to comments by fellow artiste Stonebwoy in their ongoing exchange over principles, industry relationships and the conduct of artistes.
Sarkodie accused Stonebwoy of misrepresenting his earlier comments and creating an impression that he had advised artistes to compromise their principles for personal gain.
His response follows a post by Stonebwoy on Tuesday, September 8, in which the dancehall artiste challenged Sarkodie to reconcile his call for artistes to avoid toxic energy with what he described as his own conduct.
“There’s no need to say something I never said that artistes should play along so far as it benefits them," Sarkodie wrote in a social media post on the same day.
Sarkodie explained that his original post, made on Monday, was directed at artistes who entertain fans who attack other brands to elevate them.
He said he had no intention of shading Stonebwoy and questioned why the dancehall artiste had connected the post to himself.
According to Sarkodie, he does not ordinarily respond to interpretations created by fans because he is more concerned about the opinions of the people directly involved.
He said he only chose to respond to Stonebwoy because the criticism came directly from him.
Sarkodie also referred to their phone conversation, saying he had told Stonebwoy that he did not have to forgive or forget people if he did not want to, but could not control how others chose to handle their own situations.
He maintained that the two artistes could either work together towards a common goal or go their separate ways without harbouring unnecessary resentment.
Sarkodie further pointed to their history, saying he had personally reached out to Stonebwoy on several occasions, including inviting him to his RAH show and supporting his career milestones.
