"I have stopped making donations to people" - Oboy Salinko

Ghanaian actor and businessman Oboy Salinko has disclosed that he has stopped making public donations and offering financial assistance to people after his wealth came under scrutiny.

According to the Kumawood actor, he began giving to people and supporting charitable causes at a time when he was not wealthy, but recent questions about the source of his wealth and calls for an investigation have discouraged him from continuing.

“I started giving and making donations when I wasn’t even wealthy, but now that my wealth is being questioned and people are calling for an investigation, I have stopped. I won’t continue being generous,” Salinko said.

His comments come at a time when several of his high-profile donations have attracted significant public attention.

Salinko’s history of philanthropy dates back several years. In 2016, he launched the “Salinko Help The Needy” initiative and, together with his group, visited the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, where they paid the bills of some less privileged patients who had been medically cleared but were unable to leave because of outstanding bills.

He also donated to inmates at the Kumasi Prisons as part of his birthday activities around the same period.

In September 2025, Salinko and his wife presented a Methodist Reverend Minister with a Nissan Sentra, the vehicle's documents and a financial bond of a little over GH¢3,000 as an appreciation for the minister's support during their wedding.

Later in December 2025, he gifted veteran gospel musician Nana Yaw Asare a car and GH¢10,000 during a church service at Reign House Chapel. The church also announced an additional GH¢20,000 to support the gospel musician with fuel and other expenses.

Salinko also donated GH¢20,000 to gospel musician Grace Ashley during her 25th anniversary celebration. He subsequently explained that giving was something he genuinely enjoyed and that he attributed his success to God.

His generosity continued into 2026. On September 1, 2026, reports emerged that he had surprised gospel musician Adwoa Power at her album launch with a brand-new Toyota Corolla LE and GH¢20,000 in cash.

Days later, reports also stated that Salinko had donated a Honda CR-V and GH¢10,000 to veteran gospel musician Mc Abraham. He subsequently announced plans to provide more than 300 veteran actors and musicians with GH¢1,000 every month for the rest of their lives, beginning the following year.

These gestures have contributed to Salinko's growing reputation for generosity within Ghana's entertainment industry.

However, the actor now says the public scrutiny surrounding his wealth has changed his approach to giving.
