I’m owed GH¢5 million for promoting Ghana’s World Cup — Shatta Wale

Ghanaian dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has alleged that he is owed about GH¢5 million for promotional work he undertook in support of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

Shatta Wale was involved, alongside fellow musician Stonebwoy, in fundraising activities for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, organised by the Ministries of Finance and Sports.

The musician and his team also contributed $100,000 towards efforts to support the Black Stars ahead of the tournament.

However, speaking in an interview on Accra-based GHOne TV on Friday, August 28, he said the contribution was separate from the payment he expects for promotional activities undertaken as part of the World Cup campaign.

According to Shatta Wale, his attempts to contact some officials, including Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, have not yielded results.

“I think now they owe me about 5 million Ghana cedis, and they haven't paid at all, not a penny,” he said.

Shatta Wale described the situation as disrespectful and said it is one of the reasons he was dissatisfied with some government appointees.

He clarified that while he remains happy with President John Dramani Mahama, he is not impressed with the performance of the ministers and other appointees he has dealt with.
