Salinko praises Mahama over creative arts sector support

Kumawood actor, Abraham Kofi Davies, popularly known as Salinko, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his support for the creative arts industry.

Speaking in a recent viral video, Salinko described President Mahama as a generous person with a good heart, saying the President often assists celebrities when they face difficulties.

“He is a very good person. I have never met him one-on-one before, but the day I finally meet him, I will lie on the floor. Anytime celebrities find themselves in crisis, Mahama steps in to help them. He has a good heart, and he is very generous,” he said.

Salinko's comments come amid similar claims from other Ghanaian creatives, including actor Mr. Beautiful, entertainment executive Bullgod and veteran musician, Obuoba J.A. Adofo, who have spoken about receiving support from President Mahama, including stipends in some cases.

Before returning to office, President Mahama also pledged to establish a fund to support ageing creatives if elected in the December 2024 presidential election.

At a stakeholder meeting in Accra, he said the welfare of creative industry practitioners had always been a concern to him and that he had personally supported some individuals in the sector.

He subsequently expressed his intention to introduce more sustainable measures to support creatives, particularly ageing practitioners.

Salinko's praise, however, comes just weeks after comedian, Lekzy Decomic, criticised the government, saying it had not provided enough support for comedians.

The contrasting views have sparked renewed discussion about the government's relationship with Ghana's creative arts sector and the support available to practitioners.
