Six people have sustained injuries after a Toyota Corolla veered off the Accra–Kumasi Highway and plunged into the Birim River at Biremso near Anyinasin Junction.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 19, said its Bunso Fire Station received a distress call about the crash at about 9:04 a.m. and immediately dispatched a crew to the scene.
According to the Service, an eyewitness told fire officers that he heard a loud crash and rushed to the area, where he found a black Toyota Corolla, registration number GR 1425-18, submerged in the river.
Members of the public had already rescued the occupants before the arrival of the fire crew and transported them to the Hawa Saviour Memorial Hospital for medical attention.
All six occupants of the vehicle were male and sustained various injuries. No fatalities were recorded.
The vehicle was extensively damaged in the crash, while some personal belongings belonging to the occupants were retrieved from the wreckage.
The circumstances that led to the vehicle leaving the highway and plunging into the river remain under investigation.
