Entertainment pundit Ernest Adu Kumi has described the unfortunate events that led to the cancellation of Ghana Party in the Park (ShattaFest UK) in London as a major setback for Ghana's international image.
Speaking during an interview on Hitz FM with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, the lawmaker expressed disappointment over the incident, stressing that regardless of who organised the event, Ghana's reputation would ultimately be affected.
"It's unfortunate, and it's a loss for Ghana. After everything that happened there, at the end of the day, the name associated with it will be Ghana," he said.
The 2026 edition of Ghana Party in the Park, which featured Shatta Wale as one of its headline acts and was also promoted as ShattaFest UK, was abruptly shut down by UK authorities after a major safety incident at the venue. Reports indicate that a fire broke out near one of the entrances, triggering panic among patrons. When access points were reopened, a crowd surge occurred, resulting in a stampede that left 23 people requiring medical attention, with three taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities subsequently cancelled the event, citing overcrowding and serious public safety concerns after the venue reportedly exceeded its approved capacity. Organisers also urged ticket holders to stay away from the venue while emergency services managed the situation.
Following the cancellation, Shatta Wale publicly blamed the organisers, alleging that he had warned them about potential safety issues and criticised the decision to combine ShattaFest UK with Ghana Party in the Park. He argued that poor planning and a focus on commercial interests contributed to the unfortunate events.
