Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has recounted a terrifying experience aboard a PassionAir flight from Kumasi to Accra after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence soon after takeoff.
According to the actor, who himself was under the weather, he was in the company of former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) boss Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu and the current Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene.
The incident, which occurred in early November 2026, left passengers screaming and fearing for their lives as the plane reportedly plunged and made several sharp movements in the air.
Speaking about the experience, Dr Kokofu described it as the worst flight of his life, saying passengers feared the aircraft would crash.
In an interview on Lawson TV, he said the movements were so severe that it felt as though the plane had collided with something in the air.
“It was the worst flying experience of my life. At a point, it felt as though the aircraft had collided with something in the air. The movements were so frightening that everybody on board thought we were not going to survive,” he recounted.
Lil Win also described the frightening moments, revealing that heavy rain had started before the aircraft departed Kumasi.
According to him, the flight was initially delayed by about 30 to 40 minutes, but the pilot eventually proceeded despite the weather conditions.
He said the situation became frightening after takeoff when the aircraft began moving violently, repeatedly ascending and descending.
Lil Win explained that passengers, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, were shouting in fear as the aircraft struggled through the turbulence.
“I saw people shouting and screaming because nobody knew what was happening. Even the Ashanti Regional Minister was afraid. I tried my best to calm everyone down and reassure them that we would be fine,” he said.
The aircraft eventually stabilised, allowing the pilot to continue the journey and land safely at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
Although Dr Kokofu praised the pilot for landing the aircraft safely, he said he had written to the relevant aviation authorities requesting a full investigation into what happened during the flight.
He wants the circumstances surrounding the frightening experience examined to establish what caused the unusual aircraft movements and whether all necessary safety procedures were followed.
