The management of Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale has broken its silence following the tragic events that unfolded during ShattaFest UK on Saturday, expressing profound sorrow over the crowd crush that forced organizers to cancel the much-anticipated event.
In an official statement issued by the Shatta Movement Empire, management said the difficult decision to call off the concert was taken with the safety and well-being of attendees as the top priority after reports emerged of a serious incident outside the venue.
"Following reports of a serious incident outside the venue, the difficult decision was made to cancel the event," the statement said.
It stressed that protecting lives remained paramount, noting that "nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of every single person who came to celebrate music, unity, and love."
The management also expressed deep sadness over reports of injuries and claims that lives had been lost during the incident. However, it emphasized that it was awaiting official confirmation from the relevant authorities before commenting further on the extent of the tragedy.
"We are deeply saddened by the reports of injuries and the alleged loss of lives," the statement continued.
"While we await official confirmation from the relevant authorities regarding all the facts, our thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals involved, their families, their friends, and everyone impacted by this heartbreaking incident."
Reflecting on what was intended to be a memorable night of music and celebration, the Shatta Movement Empire noted that Shatta Wale has always been committed to bringing people together through his performances, making the unfortunate turn of events especially painful.
According to management, the artist's concerts have consistently been centered on spreading joy, unity, and creating unforgettable experiences for fans, and it was heartbreaking that the occasion ended in distress instead of celebration.
The statement further appealed to the public, fans, and media organizations to refrain from speculation while investigations into the incident continue. Management urged everyone to allow the relevant authorities to establish the facts before drawing conclusions.
The team also extended appreciation to emergency responders, security personnel, and venue staff for their swift response in assisting those affected by the incident.
Finally, the Shatta Movement Empire thanked the thousands of fans who traveled from across the United Kingdom to support the event, expressing gratitude for their patience, understanding, and continued support during the difficult circumstances.
Investigations into the incident are expected to continue as authorities work to establish the full details surrounding the crowd crush.
