Stonebwoy Decries ‘We Don’t Need You Here’ Attack, Calls for Stronger African Unity

Musician Stonebwoy is urging Africans to close ranks and reject divisive attitudes after reacting to a disturbing video allegedly showing a Ghanaian being mistreated in South Africa.

Speaking on the Sent Back Podcast, the award‑winning artiste said the footage left him deeply shaken and reinforced the urgent need for Africans to embrace one another rather than fuel hostility.

“I saw a video when I was coming over here and a South African was bashing a Ghanaian and said, ‘we don’t need you guys here anymore.’ And my heart was just bleeding,” he said.

Stonebwoy described it as painful and disheartening to witness Africans turning against fellow Africans on their own continent, stressing that such incidents show how far people have drifted from the long‑held vision of African unity.

He emphasised that Africans should be able to travel, work and connect freely across the continent without fear of discrimination. According to him, hostility towards foreigners undermines cultural exchange and limits opportunities for entertainers and other professionals whose work depends on cross‑border collaboration.

The musician also noted that government policies play a major role in shaping how Africans relate to one another, urging leaders to champion integration and create systems that encourage unity rather than division.

Despite his concerns, Stonebwoy made it clear he was not attacking South Africa as a nation, saying he appreciates the country’s contributions and holds no resentment toward its people.

“I love South Africa. I love South Africa and the contributions they make. I love Africa as a whole. If I see some of these things on social media, we need to cut down that mentality as well,” he added.

Stonebwoy concluded by encouraging young Africans to reject divisive mindsets and actively promote unity, saying a stronger, more connected continent can only be built when Africans stand together regardless of nationality.
