The Epic animated film on Osei Tutu I unveiled at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi

Parables Animation Studios in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace Museum, has officially unveiled an exclusive first look at its upcoming animated feature film, Opemsuo Osei Tutu I: Birth of an Empire, during the second edition of the Asantehene Arts Award held at the historic Manhyia Palace.

The highly anticipated project chronicles the extraordinary rise of Osei Tutu I, the visionary leader who united the Akan states and laid the foundation of the Asante Empire; one of Africa’s most influential and enduring civilizations. Rich in authentic Asante culture, cinematic storytelling, and African-inspired visual artistry, the film seeks to bring one of the continent’s greatest historical narratives to global audiences.

The unveiling took place before a distinguished audience that included Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, traditional leaders, diplomats, government representatives, educators, and prominent figures from Ghana’s creative arts industry. Attendees were treated to a four-minute preview of the animated feature, which received enthusiastic applause and widespread acclaim following the screening.

Director of Parables Animation Studio, Cycil Abban, described the project as more than entertainment, calling it a cultural milestone for African storytelling on the global stage. “This is more than a movie. This is our story, told by us, for the world.”

Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Director of Manhyia palace museum, Mr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah emphasized the importance of preserving African history through modern storytelling saying, “we are excited about this film and the collaboration behind it. It’s about ensuring that Africa’s rich history and culture are preserved for the next generation, and this isn’t just for children but for all of us.”

Though still in production, Opemsuo Osei Tutu I: Birth of an Empire is already generating excitement as a landmark African animated feature that aims to redefine how African history and heritage are represented in global cinema. The project stands as part of a growing movement to elevate authentic African narratives through world-class animation and filmmaking.
